A Glimpse at BPH and Its Symptoms
Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a condition that occurs in more than half of men over the age of 51 and the percentage increases with age. BPH is characterized by the enlargement of the prostate gland, which compresses the urethra and causes painful symptoms, such as difficulty or inability to urinate, feeling the need to urinate more often, and more. Although the percentage of BPH diagnoses is relatively high, the information available about etiological factors, preventative measures you can take, and other resources remains elusive.
Determining if You Are Being Affected by BPH
Read my BPH story to learn more about the way benign prostatic hyperplasia manifested itself in my particular case. The story may sound familiar to you and you may be experiencing similar episodes. If you think you may be beginning to see the early symptoms of BPH, take our self-assessment questionnaire. With these tools and the other resources available here, you will have taken a critical step in managing your health.
Treating BPH through Diet and Environmental Factors
The next step may be to begin determining what you can control, which is your diet and, to some degree, environmental factors. Review the BPH food list, my wife, a master's degreed nutritionist and I have created, as well as the information on the Environmental Factors page. This information is based on research and personal experience. While your particular set of symptoms may be a bit different and these foods may affect you to varying degrees, the diet suggestions are worth a try to alleviate the uncomfortable symptoms of BPH and to avoid surgery as long as possible.
